Our Space

He: What is it then?
Anima-Voice: It is being. Being in the soul.
He: Is this what you want, what soul wants?
Anima-Voice: Out, everywhere, space.
He: I move in your space.
Anima-Voice: I move you in our space.
He: Our space?
James Hillman.

Our space! Mitoludens is being formed as an Institute entirely devoted to Nature and Culture in Myths & Arts. Myths are here studied through the lens of Archetypal Psychology and our approach aims at those who are or wish to be fully engaged in the playful world. Ludens comes from the Latin word ludere which means to play (see the article Play!). Mitoludens is located in a green area nearby Brasilia-DF, Brazil where we preserve the Cerrado biodiversity and have a deep connection to both Culture and Nature through the Arts: Mythology, Music/Voice/Poetry, Cinema, Theatre-Dance, Native Culture, Yoga, Tai Chi, Ayurveda Massage and Natural Culinary. Mytholudens has also a Library that is devoted to mythological and art studies.

Our lens to look trough the myths are the studies of Archetypal Psychology inspired by James Hillman, Ginette Paris, David Miller, Joseph Campbell, Christine Downing, Marion Woodman, Henry Corbin, Rafael Lopez-Pedraza, Enrique Pardo, among many other brilliant minds who followed and expanded Carl Jung studies. Laboratories in Mythological Studies are offered by Luciana Aires Mesquita, MA in Mythological Studies with emphasis in Depth Psychology, Pacifica Graduate Institute, CA to those interested to link sacred stories to soul, body and voice. Psychologists, artists, ecologists and all cultivators of the soul are welcome. The III Mythological Studies Series will begin on September 15th/2007. Registration are open.

In music we are free from partitura! Inspired by the Brazilian musician Guilherme Vaz, the Vox Mundi Project, Roy Hart, Pantheatre, Paulucci, Hindu harmoniums, traditional Afro-Brazilian music, Indigenous and Tibetan songs we let ourselves express our soul giving voice in our bodies to unknown sounds and forgotten cultures.

Poetry is intensely lived at Mitoludens; Rumi and Hafiz (sec. XIII-XIX) are our friends! As well as Cora Coralina. We recorded them in a Cd that  you may appreciate at Poetry/Music/Voice the Cd “Rumi Hafiz Cora”. Our next project is to put together a symphony of traditional instruments to play the Poem of Maize with corn myth themes from the three Americas. See Maize Poem´s Project.

Theatre-Dance at Mitoludens is inspired by the experience intensely lived with Kazuo Ohno (Yokohama, Japan), Noh, Buyo (Tokyo, Japan), Kathakali (India), Baris (Indonesia), Pantheatre (France), Odin Theatre (Denmark) and other inspiration from Ariane Mnouskine (Theatre du Soleil), Pina Baush, Peter Brook, Artaud, Grotowski, Antunes to a body of voice, soul and poetry. Intense trainee to actors and dancers (professional and amateurs are welcome) are permanently offered. A new group is opening.  The workshop Creative Actor -- imagination is a muscle to be worked  by Maurice Durozier ~actor from Théâtre du Soleil  ~  was our last event at  Mitoludens.

Native Culture has a special place at Mitoludens. The Brazilian national week of indigenous people was celebrated at Mitoludens together with the Kayapo people who offered a workshop on Traditional Kayapo Body Painting. We extended the workshop to the Serranopolis 12 thousand year old sacred indigenous site through a partnership with Aldeia  of  the Guardians who run there an  Eco-Retreat. Due to its astounding success the event should be also presented next year and open to foreign participants.

Monthly cultural events are played about once a month to a larger public. Mawaca group gifted us in a full moon night of songs, Voices of the World. In cinema, Tamboro, a grand movie, was presented for the first time in Brazil at Mitoludens! Sergio Bernardes, the film director  and Guilherme Vaz, conductor and composer, presented us a night full of shocking beautiful images and music of the anima mundi in Brazil.  The movie Un Soleil à Kaboul followed by a dialogue with Maurice Durozier from Théâtre du Soleil  was exhibited at Alliance Française.

Yoga, Tai Chi and Massages have been our daily integrative practice. Deva Karuna/Aline Vieira are at Mitoludens every Wednesday. She offers body massage following the teachings of Kussum Modak and Buddhist wisdom acquired in her annually stay in the Dalai Lama monastery. The group to practice Tai Chi Pai Lin with the teacher Ana Carmem Fernandes happens in the mornings, Mondays and Fridays from 7am to 8:30 pm.

Natural Culinary is prepared with much care by Tania Cassia and Aida in our traditional wood stove. Vegetarian and natural food specialists are occasionally invited to give cooking class at Mitoludens.

In Nature we are. Inspired by James Hillman in The Practice of Beauty, by Stephen Aizenstat in Dream Tending, Theodore Roszak in Ecopsychology, Othon Leonardos in Sustainable Development and Native People we make our practice. Maggie Macary has a special place in our garden. In the slope trails of a valley surrounded by hills we can revere the delicate flowers of the rupestrian cerrado fields. Here is special spot  to view Aphrodite sunset where gods and goddesses may be also seen at  playing.

Mitoludens was baptized by the  traditional Bakairi people (MT). It is a space of meeting, creativity and research to artists, ecologists, psychologists and possible partners who are interested to walk in the beauty way. Our library has been open daily. Talk and visit us.

As partners & professionals, Mitoludens Institute is specially grateful to the partnership with Aldeia of the Guardians Eco Retreat that has been functioning as our external campus as to provide deeper and longer immersions within nature. The Aldeia is an ecological sanctuary whose main objective is to preserve the fauna and flora of the pantanal/cerrado transition region which lies close to the 12,000 years old  cave paintings at Serranópolis, Goiás, right at the Brazil´s heart.

Check out our programs to register in Mythology, Native Culture, Theatre-Dance, Massages, Tai Chi, Monthly cultural events, Music/voice/poetry, Cinema, Culinary and Nature.
